If the person who gladly accepted our reservation would have told us honestly how close the spots really were and made sure we understood that it may not be the place for us with 3 dogs, then I would not be leaving this review. We drove 6 hours from our home to visit Williamsburg for the first time and this ended up being a huge huge mistake to stay here as we were not comfortable leaving our dogs who would bark if we weren’t there because of the extremely tight quarters and we were not comfortable sitting outside when the neighbors were 5 feet away from us. It would be much better if the owners would reduce the amount of campsites there so that a vacation could be somewhat enjoyable for families. We have been camping with a travel trailer for 15 years and never encountered this.

The photos of the campground on the website are deceiving and it appears significantly larger than it is, so please be warned. This campground may be good for a single person or a couple with a small camper with no dogs, but not for a family like ours. The pool is very tiny and it is not comfortable for more than one family in it. The campground was immaculate, except for the pool that was cloudy and had debris in it. The price to stay at Anvil was not reflective of the comfort of our stay. Our neighbors were so close that our dogs barked any time a neighbor was outside because it appeared as if the neighbor was on our property when they were really not. There is almost no other grass in the campground and we had to bring our dogs outside of the campground property to walk them.
#ANVIL CAMPGROUND PATCH#
We payed extra for a deluxe site and thank goodness had a very small patch of grass on it, which ended up being the only place for our dogs to relieve themselves. The campground is so so tiny, which would be fine, except for the fact that the campsites are so very close together that there is no space at all to actually sit outside. We have a 32 foot travel trailer and we had 2 adults and one teenager, none of who are petite. What did bother us was the claustrophobic feeling from staying at this campground. We have stayed at campgrounds where the road noise or train were much much louder. Most negative reviews on this site are because of the road noise between the train and the busy road that runs parallel to the campground. I am writing this review to save others from a very disappointing vacation like we had. This campground is very well taken care of and it’s owners obviously take great pride in it.
